LaClass News

First I want to thank everyone who has helped contribute to and support the site. Even though it's many years since Katrina, many of us are still recovering and it's hard to make ends meet. Your donations mean a lot. This site still costs more to run than it makes - I guess when you offer something "free" people take advantage of it, but if you feel the spirit of the holiday season making you thankful or generous, you can use the "donate" link at the bottom of the page to help support us.

Another way of supporting our site is to add a link on your web, myspace or facebook page Here is some code you can use:

New Features

You may have noticed a new link on each ad that says "Report ad to moderators". This new link will send us an immediate e-mail notifying us that there is some content on the site we should take a look at. This isn't an automated system. A human will still examine the reported ad to make sure it is acceptable. If not, it will be deleted. We appreciate your assistance in helping us quickly call attention to bogus and inappropriate ads. This should make the Louisiana Classifieds even more useful.

Better Blacklisting

New changes have been made to the code now to include a more robust way of blocking foreign scammers. In the coming weeks you may see a few more ads while we "tighten the noose" around certain geographic areas which we don't think should be posting here. There's no reason for someone in Nigeria or Brasil or India to be posting ads in "Louisiana Classifieds" is there? We don't think so. If they want to do so, they will have to purchase a commercial ad. Pretty soon we will be stopping almost all the phony foreign ads, but we will still rely on you reporting things to make sure we get any fraudsters off the site as soon as possible.

From Where Was This Ad Posted?

The "From where was this ad posted?" link now does a lookup of the IP address of the originating poster. I'm seeing scammers from Nigeria and other foreign countries, especially in Africa, post copies of legitimate ads. Before you respond you might want to click on that link and see if they're posting from anywhere near the area they claim, and some way far away country is a sign of a fake ad.
